Now you're probably wondering, what is a Buddha bowl? As the story goes, the Buddha woke up before dawn every morning and carried his bowl through the roads or paths wherever he was staying. Local people would place food in the bowl as an exchange for his wise wisdom, advice, and mind. At the end of his walks, he would eat whatever he had been given.
You might also find most Buddha bowls are being brought out to your tables in cafes and restaurants. It is typically a fine line between a Buddha bowl and a large walled plate. So, if this is your type of ceramic vessel you want to forge with your hands, then come and join us in this class to create your very own Buddha bowl.
Join us in this fun wheel-throwing class where you create your own large Buddha bowl. To make this class even more exciting, the clay body of choice is a special clay from Keane Ceramics that looks like chocolate when thrown and when fired to completion appears jet black with a popping white speckle. This clay body is called Dark Matter and is a sturdy, strong, and durable clay body. This class is suitable for a beginner or intermediate due to the grog content.
Throw your hands and mind into the world of wheel-throwing and discover the basic mechanics of throwing clay on the wheel with our Buddha bowl class. While learning the fundamental techniques to create a large, wide functional bowl, you will also walk away with a large insight into how to create other vessels and in turn help you continue your wheel-throwing adventures.
Once your pieces are complete, they will be dried and undergo its first fire. From here, you will be welcomed back to choose a time that suits you to glaze your bowl. Choose from our extensive range of Coyote glazes and Mayco range. Our glazes are food-safe and dishwasher safe.
Whether you're looking for a creative outlet, a new hobby, or a way to express yourself, this workshop is the perfect opportunity to learn, enjoy, and explore the art of pottery.
