Unveiling The ART OF OBVARA EXPERIENCE

In the first segment of your adventure, you'll mold your own narrative with two wheel-thrown vessels, guided by the skilled hands and expertise of Clay Temple's wheel throwing instructors. Once these vessels have been fired, we'll welcome you back to the home studio of Beautiful Things by Jasmine (Banora Point, NSW) to embark on your journey into Obvara. 

Whether you're a seasoned artisan or a curious novice, our wheel-throwing workshops offer a welcoming refuge to explore your imagination and depart with a treasure trove of inspiration. 

Class Duration

• Class runs for 1.30 minutes

What you will receive on the day

• 2 x 500 grams of clay (wheel thrown vessels - 10cm W by 8 cm H
• 1 set of callipers and measuring tools 
• Make 2 vessels with thick walls to take with you to your Obvara session
• Guidance and techniques from an experienced pottery teacher
• Finished vessels that will be waiting for you when you arrive on your Obvara experience

Further Information

• Once you have finished your wheel throwing class your pots will be bisqued fired and sent off to your Obvara teacher, where they will await your arrival and booked in experience. 
• Once your wheel throwing session has finished you will book your Obvara experience in if you haven't done so prior.

• How long will I have to wait until my obvara class?

• What kind of vessels can I make in my wheel throwing class? 

             If its your first time on the wheel, we suggest a dish, in saying that if you have 

             a shape in mind we can try make this a reality for you in class. 

• Can beginners do this class?

              Yes! This workshop is suitable for a complete novice and beginner on the wheel

Embark on an artistic adventure with Beautiful Things by Jasmine, where you will discover the exciting world of Obvara, an ancient Eastern European ceramic firing technique dating back to the 12th century. This method involves dipping bisque-fired pottery into a unique fermented mixture of flour, yeast, sugar, and water, followed by rapid cooling. The result is a mesmerizing array of textures and patterns that are as unpredictable as they are beautiful.

Under the guidance of Jasmine, you will learn a variety of dipping techniques through detailed

demonstrations. You will then have the opportunity to apply these methods to your own creations,

surrounded by an atmosphere of excitement and anticipation for the unveiling of each unique vessel.
