Class Duration
The class runs for 1.30 minutes.
Clay Body
At the end of the class students will have two fully thrown vessels completed. This class is focused on learning the mechanics of wheel throwing with the use of terracotta as the clay body. Most garden pot's and porous pottery are created using terracotta. so thing's that can be made range from incense holder's to pot plants to just about whatever you desire.
What you will recieve on the day
- 2 x 600 grams of clay
- make 1 to 2 vessels (students decision)
- Guidance and techniques from a experienced pottery teacher
- Finished vessels will receive one firing and be ready to be picked up asap
- Learn to merge two thrown vessels together to create extra height
What to bring with you
- patience and enthusiasm :)
- having short nails will help, trimming is recommended
- don't forget those hair-ties
This course was designed to allow the new potter to discover and practice the basic mechanics of throwing clay on the wheel with smoother clay body's such as terracotta. Throughout the lesson, techniques and method's will be shared and discussed and put into practice to understand how vessels can be merged together to create larger vessels.
The vessel's created will not be glazed making them porous at the end of their first firing unless students states otherwise. Once pieces have been fired pot's will be ready to be picked up. This course has a quicker turn around time due to the easy process of creating porous pottery.
About Clay Temple
Our wheel throwing classes are small and designed to give the students more undivided attention towards learning the mechanics of wheel throwing. Our studio only has the capability of hosting 6 students at a time. We will provide hand's on instructions to help guide you through every step of the way to bringing your clay to life.
Once students have completed the intro class or taming of the terracotta class, students will be given a ticket and opportunity to further their passion for pottery and par-take in a 6 week intensive wheel throwing course if requested (with a discount added). Age requirements
- These classes are suitable to ages 14 + and up.
- Please note parent's will have to attend/partake in class for children 14 + and up, so don't forget to book in early.
If you wish for your child to attend a wheel throwing class, keep your eye's peeled for our school holiday program where ages 8 and up are able to attend.
